Fibro Active

You must be currently experiencing a little turmoil especially if you have just been diagnosed, or you may be relieved that you have finally found a source of support. Don’t worry you have come to the right place and we hope to help you as best as we can.

We are a support group for people like yourself aged 18 and over with Fibromyalgia (FM) and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ ME) and your carer/ partner.

We are a positive and inclusive group that focuses on healthy lifestyle, light exercise, support and sharing information as well as educating members about their condition to help them move forward with their acceptance and management of the illness.

Where and when do we meet?

We meet at Petersham Community Hall, Grasmere Road, Long Eaton. NG10 4DZ.

Meetings are Tuesdays from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

Transport to meetings

We encourage car share. If you are struggling to get to the venue, you can leave a post on the Facebook page to see if anyone will be travelling from your area.

The Briargate bus service drops you opposite the hall and runs regularly. If you have a blue badge, you may be entitled to a gold card/ bus pass.

Fibro Welcoming Buddy

If you are finding it difficult to attend your first few group meetings for any reason, we can help you. We can ask one of our more established members to meet you and walk in with you, so you are not alone. Don’t worry we will give you a warm welcome and you will feel at home straight away.

What do we do in meetings?

We have a bespoke programme that incorporates the government’s 5 ways to wellbeing. We call it the Fibro 5. We connect with each other with coffee and chat sessions, we keep active with Tai Chi for Arthritis, we take notice by reflecting on our experiences, we keep learning about our symptoms and coping mechanisms, and we give support to each other. You can find more information on our group leaflet and on our website.

The current programme can be found on our activity page, pinned at the top of the Facebook Fibro Active Support Group and under our notice board in Petersham Hall. It is also emailed out to full members and professionals who refer sufferers to the group.

You don’t have to attend every week and we totally understand that it takes time to get going in a morning. However, the best time to come to group meetings is when you don’t feel like it because that’s what we are here for! And if you are waiting until you are well enough, we may never see you!

We just ask that you try to turn up on time when we have a guest speaker or activity that needs to start promptly. If you are attending a session at 12pm after Tai Chi, please wait quietly in the entrance until we are finished. We also need to vacate the hall promptly at 1pm, ready for the next hall users.
