Membership and Commitment Details

Your membership is for life and begins as soon as you have completed the online application.  However, membership can be terminated for good reason by the Management Committee. You can view the group’s constitution here for further information.

We ask that you familiarise yourself with the information on this page and the information on which membership you decide to go with below prior to your first visit so that you have a full understanding of the group rules and agree to them. Don’t worry there is no pressure.

If you are find it difficult to attend your first few group meetings for any reason, we can help you. We can ask one of our more established members to meet you and walk in with you, so you are not alone. Don’t worry we will give you a warm welcome and you will feel at home straight away.

How much does it cost?

Your first visit is free. Thereafter, we can offer you one of our membership packages that help pay for the room hire and the refreshments.

When are your meetings?

Join us every Tuesday, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, at Petersham Community Hall, Grasmere Road, Long Eaton, NG10 4DZ. Our current programme can be found on the bulletin board here. Share rides via carpool or check our Facebook page for transport assistance. The Briargate bus service stops opposite the hall, and blue badge holders may qualify for a gold card/bus pass.

What happens in your meetings?

We have a bespoke programme that incorporates the government’s 5 ways to wellbeing. We call it the Fibro 5. We connect with each other with coffee and chat sessions, we keep active with Tai Chi for Arthritis, we take notice by reflecting on our experiences, we keep learning about our symptoms and coping mechanisms, and we give support to each other.

Group Activites

If you’re interested in what activities the group does, you can go to our Group Activities Page. You can explore information about our Small Steps to Health program and other resources we provide to support the group.

Do I have to attend every week?

You don’t have to and we completely understand that it takes time to get started in the mornings. However, the absolute best time to pop into our group meetings is when you might not be feeling up to it because that’s precisely what we’re here for – to support you, no matter how you’re feeling! Waiting until you feel perfectly well might mean we miss the chance to have you with us.

We kindly ask that you make an effort to arrive on time, especially when we have a guest speaker or an activity that’s set to kick off promptly. If your session is at 12 pm following Tai Chi, please wait quietly in the entrance until the ongoing session wraps up. And do keep in mind, we need to wrap things up in the hall by 1 pm and ready for the next hall users.

Interested in joining our Tai Chi or Qigong classes?

Our Tai Chi and Qigong classes are not only just available for Fibro Active Members but for anyone aged 18 and above. For more information on these classes, please visit the Small Steps to Health page directly by clicking on the link provided below.
